I would have earned more if more copies of the album were sold," says Williams. Royalties totaled over $6,000.00 with AIR receiving 1/2 or $3000 for publishing the song and selling approximately 80,000 copies. The other $3000 was split between Barnes and Williams. If that one song had gone gold, (selling over 500,000 units), he would have made over $10,000. If the album had gone platinum, (selling 1,000,000 copies), he would have earned over $20,000. That would have been a nice check for one song that took less than 20 minutes to write. "I have written a lot of songs since then but never really saw how powerful and valuable our words on paper could be until I received that $1500 check in the mail. Imagine what I would have earned if I had placed 100 of my songs on albums selling in large quantities," adds Williams.
